The 2010 National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held on 14 January 2011 in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. During the Ceremony，356 awards of 2010 National Science and Technology Awards were presented.　

The project "Ecosystem carbon flux network observation and modeling system for carbon budge assessment of terrestrial ecosystem in China”, was accredited National Science and Technology Progress Awards - Second Prize. Professor YU Guirui is the leading scientist of the project, from Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).　

Focused on regional assessment on carbon budget of terrestrial ecosystems and climate change research, the project carried out a series of studies. The main achievements of this project include: establish the ChinaFLUX (Chinese terrestrial ecosystem flux research network); set up ChinaFLUX-EMI (observation system of carbon-water-nitrogen fluxes and its processes); develop ChinaFLUX-FTR (carbon flux and storage observation technology system of ecosystem flux observation-transect investigation-remote sensing); construct ChinaFLUX-MDFS (data - model fusion system on simulation of terrestrial carbon cycle and carbon budget assessment).　

The research group solves series of technical problems on carbon flux observation and regional carbon budget assessment, is the first in China to establish ecosystem carbon flux observation network and modeling system on assessment of Chinese terrestrial ecosystem carbon budge, which provide a scientific basis for effective carbon management and quantitative assessment of carbon budget in terrestrial ecosystems of china. 

The National Science and Technology Progress Award is conferred on individuals or organizations by the State Council in recognition of their major contributions to application and popularization of advanced scientific and technological achievements, or to the accomplishment of major scientific and technological projects, programs, and plans.
