The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) hosted a forum Friday on ecosystem management in the development of a green economy in China and other developing countries.
More than 200 participants, including heads of the UN and other international organizations, Chinese government officials, scientists and business leaders watched as UNEP and CAS launched the International Ecosystem Management Partnership. The Chinese-based IEMP will promote ecosystem management in developing countries, particularly Africa.
The IEMP’s main function is to exchange technology and knowledge among developing countries. The hope is that leaders and policy makers will use the information to protect and promote their threatened ecosystems.
The forum in Beijing will contribute to the success of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development.
